Couples Therapy
Strengthening connection. Understanding each other. Building healthier relationships.
Even strong relationships experience moments of disconnection. Perhaps conversations that once felt easy now turn into arguments, or you find yourselves having the same disagreements over and over. Sometimes, the love is still there, but finding your way back to each other feels difficult.

What Is Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy is a collaborative process that helps partners better understand their relationship dynamics, improve communication, navigate conflict, and strengthen emotional connection. Our childhood experiences, family relationships, cultural backgrounds, and previous romantic relationships influence how we understand love, trust, conflict, and emotional intimacy.
For example, one partner may seek reassurance when feeling insecure, while the other needs space to process difficult emotions. Without understanding these differences, both may interpret each other's responses as rejection. Couples therapy isn't about determining who is right or wrong. It's about understanding the patterns that keep you disconnected and discovering new ways to connect.
What Can Couples Therapy Help With?
Communication difficulties: conversations that frequently lead to arguments, defensiveness, criticism, or withdrawal.
Recurring conflict: repeated disagreements that create frustration, resentment, or emotional distance.
Emotional disconnection: feeling more like roommates than romantic partners or struggling to maintain intimacy.
Trust and relationship repair: navigating dishonesty, betrayal, or experiences that have affected emotional security.
Parenting and life transitions: adjusting to parenthood, changing responsibilities, or significant relationship milestones.
Cultural differences: understanding how different backgrounds, values, and family experiences influence the relationship.
We provide couples therapy in English and Spanish with Daesy Ruiz, LSW, offering culturally responsive care that recognizes the role of language, family experiences, and cultural expectations in relationships.

Our Approach: Gottman-Informed Couples Therapy
Research-Informed
We incorporate principles of the Gottman Method, a research-informed approach that helps partners deepen their friendship, manage conflict more effectively, and build a shared sense of meaning and connection.
Beyond Avoiding Arguments
Rather than simply teaching couples how to avoid arguments, therapy helps them understand the emotional dynamics underlying their interactions, practice healthier communication, and develop strategies to use outside of therapy.
Both Voices Heard
Our goal is to create a collaborative environment where both partners feel respected and have the opportunity to share their experiences. You don't need to wait until your relationship reaches a breaking point to seek support.
